In The Beginning...
A fire in the crypts this week caused quite a stir over by Temple Falls. Investigators don’t believe the crypts would have started on fire after 150 years for no reason and suspect foul play. Those on the street claim to have seen demons clouded in smoke and smelling of burning corpses suddenly appear near the temples, while others say it was just a group of hippies shrouded in pot smoke and smelling of patchouli. The Tower of the Watch did say a powerful burst of magic came from the area during the time of the disturbance. The rumor is a secret entrance at the back of the crypts was found which could have dire consequences for the city. This could be a plot by the city of Kaddestrie working to find a secret way into Cliffport, as skirmishes continue along the border. City officials stated that Cliffport’s protections were as strong as ever and not to worry.
Also, a high profile prisoner escaped from a holding cell at the Peninsulas aging Barret Prison. It was believed he was the now infamous Pyromancer from the north. He was caught only a day before his escape beating a young boy and burning the families home down. When asked about the escape prison guards simply stated “He was in a cell chained hand and foot. We have no idea how he managed to escape.” The bounty on his head has increased to 500gp so we can expect a flood of bounty hunters to answer the call to justice.
In other news, a rash of strange thefts has swept the Peninsula. Victims claim they saw groups of small scaly critters rummaging through stuff yapping and chirping at each other. Two shop owners were badly injured and one has been found dead. Information on these crimes would be greatly appreciated by the city guard.
For some good news, The Silver Merchants hired a group of mysterious mercenaries to clear up the river pirate problem on the Silver Run, and it seems to have been a success! It comes just in time too say the merchants “Harvest is coming up fast and much of the cities food gets floated down that river.” Indeed Harvestide would be a little more glum without food being stored up in the city. Because the river is clear the farmers hope to get more workers in for harvest, Cliffport Caravaners are making a trip every three days to move workers.
A Sea Elf envoy from Della arrived at the keep this week to renew their agreement to help keep an eye on threats coming from the sea. Cliffport’s Hegemon seems to be shoring up alliances on all fronts in case the skirmishes with Kaddestrie turn into a full scale war.
